The aim of the course is to illustrate the operating mechanism of laser. In the next step are explained different applications in the field of cultural, environmental, medical and industrial heritage. The sub aim of the course it’s to see, with a multitasking approach that include biological, chemical, medical aspects, the different laser applications.

Biophysics, Light matter interaction, spectroscopy, imaging, elements of molecular and cell biology, applications in the biomedical field.

Course program
Elements of laser physics; two level atomic system. Rate equations on a three level laser. Broadening mechanisms on absorption lines. Gas, solid state, liquid and semiconductor lasers. Optical cavities. Short pulse generation. Biomedical, biotechnological, industrial, heritage, and environment applications. It will follow a focus in the field of biophysics, biophotonics, and biomedical imaging. Visit in research labs will be organized.
