Acquire knowledge for basic and applied research with photonic materials.
The course contains both basic concepts of photonics as well as many practical applications of photonic materials. The focus is on requiring insight in the physics involved, not on detailed calculations.
The course can be followed up with a PhD on related topics versus an academic career, or students can aim at a career in industry. The students will make contact with projects in collaboration with Sony, Zeiss, ENEL Green Power and other international industries.

The course will be given in the form of lectures with maximum student participation. The students will also have the possibility to go deeper into a topic of choices and present a lecture themselves on this topic.
The course includes hands-on experience in the laboratory in which the students will make use of sophisticated sample processing technology and realise their own materials. Practical aspects will be emphasised.

Oral exam that includes a presentation by the student on a topic of choice.
